About DanDan Rittenhouse

Contemporary eatery serving dan dan noodles, veggie dishes & spicy Sichuan/Taiwanese specialties.

DanDan Rittenhouse is a szechuan in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It is listed at 126 S 16th St, Philadelphia, PA 19102, which places it among the local businesses of Philadelphia that residents and visitors turn to when they need this kind of service close by. Besides its main category, the business also describes itself as chinese restaurant, dan dan noodle restaurant, so it may cover more than the name suggests.

In cities with a Chinatown, weekend mornings bring dim sum carts or order sheets, and lines form early at the most popular spots in Philadelphia; walk-ins are standard and reservations are uncommon outside large banquet restaurants. Regional labels matter: Cantonese, Sichuan, Hunan, Shanghainese and Taiwanese kitchens cook very differently, so a restaurant's stated region is a better guide to the food than the word "Chinese" alone. Some smaller restaurants in Pennsylvania are BYOB with no corkage fee; call ahead to confirm. A tip of 15-20% is customary for table service but not expected at counter-order takeout. Spice level, MSG and allergen questions are normal to ask before ordering, and most kitchens are happy to leave an ingredient out or tone down the heat if you mention it when ordering rather than after the food arrives.

Hours are published for 7 days a week. The most common schedule is 11 am–10 pm. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. You can reach DanDan Rittenhouse at (215) 800-1165; calling is usually the quickest way to ask about availability, prices or directions. Its website is dandanrestaurant.com, where you may find menus, price lists or booking options.

On Google it holds a rating of 4.3 out of 5 from 1,556 reviews, which is a strong result for a szechuan in Philadelphia and suggests consistent service.

Philadelphia is in Pennsylvania, in the Northeast, where four distinct seasons shape local life: hot humid summers, snowy winters that can close businesses for a day, and a dense pattern of towns where walking, transit and street parking all matter. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and Philadelphia follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

The spouse had a great meal here in the past, so it was one less place I had to research for dinner. ATMOSPHERE: Intimate spot with a small loft, soft music and big windows for people watching. Takeout and deliveries seemed to be the majority of the business. RESERVATIONS: Not needed on this particular Monday night. PARKING: Street or garage. MENU: Sichuan & Taiwanese dishes. No dim sum. BEVERAGE: Lychee Martini Perfectly chilled and balanced, complete with a whole lychee garnish. FOOD: Dan Dan Noodles We got it plain but proteins were available. Thicker noodles coated in a thick peanut-flavored sauce with a little kick of heat. Very good but I’d definitely add either chicken or tofu to break up the carbs. Dry Pot Dish Served in a steel wok, we opted for chicken which was super tender. Very flavorful dish but it wasn’t presented sizzling as the menu stated. Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup If you’re a ramen fan and want something different, I think you’ll love this as much as I did. A generous amount of thick noodles (available hand-ripped flat noodles are a $1 option), chunky slices of tender and fatty beef swimming in a savory and slightly sour dark-hued broth. Forgot to

My wife and I have been coming to Dan Dan Noodle since 2017, and it’s remained one of our most reliable go-to spots in the city. The food is consistently strong, and the signature dan dan noodles are a must-order. We also tend to get the chicken potstickers, scallion pancake, kung pao chicken, and dry pot beef, along with white rice for the table. It’s a menu that rewards repeat visits. We’ve had both takeout and dine-in here, and we definitely prefer dining in. The food is at its best when it comes straight out of the kitchen. The staff is always friendly, helpful, and kind without being overbearing. For seating, we prefer the cozy but small upstairs dining area, so making a reservation on OpenTable is usually a good idea. There are a few high-top tables downstairs near the kitchen and windows, which are also great, but if you prefer a quieter or cozier spot, we think the upstairs is best. They also offer a happy hour with good prices, and overall, the value for the food quality is excellent. We often bring out-of-town guests, and it’s always a hit. Sichuan cuisine remains distinct from typical American Chinese, which helps Dan Dan stand out. We’ve also noticed their Ardmore loc

The spicy tendon was tasty. It had a nice fiery flavor to it perfect for the cold night. The pork belly over rice was well done. It was classic Taiwanese fare at its finest. The onion pancake was perfectly fried. It had a real nice crispy texture to it. The Dan Dan noodle had way too much peanut butter flavor to it I found it inedible. Other people are a fan of it, I am not. I was hoping for a tomato based Dan Dan noodle, I should’ve asked. Other than the hostess being rude the experience was ok.

If you want proper Sichuan food, this is the place. The dan dan noodles and mapo tofu are excellent, with deep umami and the numbing mala balance done right. Bold flavors without being sloppy or muted. The potstickers, however, are a pass and do not match the level of the mains.

A really delightful first experience here! Loved the atmosphere, a chill vibe, great for a relaxing Friday night meal. My husband and I devoured the dumplings in chili oil. Just the right amount of spice. That was our absolute favorite! We also had the scallion pancakes, which were deliciously crispy. I got the ginger shredded duck and loved it. My husband got the special - a spicy braised duck with vegetables. It was huge! He was very happy. 😋 We will definitely return.
